What A Demo Includes

A demo is a complete, ready-made website: not a single page layout, but the pages, posts, media, menus, site chrome and settings of a finished design, importable into your site in one guided run. Read this page before your first import, so you know what will arrive and where to find each piece afterwards.

The Pieces

A demo package carries everything its design needs, and each piece lands where you would edit it by hand:

  • Pages and posts arrive as ordinary pages and posts, editable in the block editor.
  • Media arrives in your media library, attached to the content that uses it.
  • Site chrome arrives as Canvas records: headers, footers, top bars, heroes, page titles, side panels and popups, each under its own admin menu.
  • Content records arrive under their menus too: sliders and slides, forms, and where the design uses them, Portfolio projects, Events or WooCommerce products.
  • Menus arrive as WordPress navigation menus wired to the imported pages.
  • Settings arrive as the design's Theme Options, applied when you import the demo site-wide and skipped when you do not, which is the subject of Site Wide Versus Page Scoped Import.

Some Demos Add Their Own Blocks And Content Types

A design sometimes ships a block or a content type of its own, built for that design's layout, a recipe grid for a restaurant, a room list for a hostel. These are documented on each design's own page in the Designs section of the reference, one page per design, so when you meet a block on an imported site that the main Blocks section does not list, open the Designs page for the design your site was built from. Design-scoped items stay registered even if you later remove the demo's content, so anything you kept keeps rendering.

Where To Browse Them

Starting screenCanvasDemo Import.

The Browse Demos tab shows every available demo as a card, with a search box and an All Categories filter above the grid. Clicking a card, or its Import button, opens a dialog describing what that demo contains, and nothing is imported until you press Start Import there. A valid Canvas license is required to import, and the whole run is covered in How To Import A Demo.
