Thumbnails

Image thumbnail grid with hover effects and optional captions. Supports lightbox and link overlays. It is shown in the block inserter as Canvas Thumbnails and registered as canvas-core/thumbnails.

Select the block on a page and its own settings open in the sidebar, in the panels below:

Settings

Each setting is named exactly as the block editor names it, followed by what it does and what it starts as. Where a setting carries a Shown when line, it stays hidden until that condition is met, which is the usual reason a setting looks missing from the sidebar:

  • ImagesDefaultEmpty

    The pictures in the grid, in the order they appear. A row with no picture chosen is skipped.

    Each row of Images takes:

    • ImageDefault0

      The picture itself. Its alternative text comes from the media library.

    • TitleDefaultEmpty

      Bold line printed under the picture. Leave empty for a picture with no caption.

    • CaptionDefaultEmpty

      Smaller line under the title, for a description or a credit.

    • Link URLDefaultEmpty

      Where clicking the picture leads. Ignored while the lightbox is on, which takes the click instead.

    • Open in New TabDefaultOff

      Open this link in a new browser tab, so the visitor keeps your page open behind it.
