Image Element

A bare image with no figure or caption around it, for logos and badges that sit inline beside other content. It is shown in the block inserter as Canvas Image Element and registered as canvas-core/image-element.

Select the block on a page and its own settings open in the sidebar, in the panels below:

Settings

Each setting is named exactly as the block editor names it, followed by what it does and what it starts as. Where a setting carries a Shown when line, it stays hidden until that condition is met, which is the usual reason a setting looks missing from the sidebar:

  Picture to show. Nothing is rendered until one is set here or an address is given below.

  Used when no media-library image is chosen.

  Describes the image for screen readers. Leave empty only when the image is decorative.

  Which stored copy of the picture is served. A smaller one loads faster when the image is drawn small.

Settings

  Rendered as the height attribute, which is how a design sizes an inline logo. Empty omits it.

  Rendered as the width attribute. Empty omits it.

  Turn on for an image above the fold, or one a script measures as soon as the page loads.
