Dropcaps

Styled dropcap letter with accompanying paragraph text. Supports boxed, bordered, circle, and circle-bordered variants with left or right positioning. It is shown in the block inserter as Canvas Dropcap and registered as canvas-core/dropcap.

Settings

Each setting is named exactly as the block editor names it, followed by what it does and what it starts as. Where a setting carries a Shown when line, it stays hidden until that condition is met, which is the usual reason a setting looks missing from the sidebar:

    The large decorative letter rendered as the dropcap.

  • Paragraph TextDefaultLorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. Sed do eiusmod tempor incididunt ut labore et dolore magna aliqua. Ut enim ad minim veniam, quis nostrud exercitation ullamco laboris.

    The paragraph the large letter opens. Leave it empty and nothing is drawn, since a letter on its own says nothing.

    Which of the two dropcap treatments to draw. The badge sets the letter in a box of its own beside the paragraph; the typographic one floats it into the running text, the way a magazine opens an article. Each has its own Style setting below.

    Which element holds the text. Choose the plain container where the copy is not really a paragraph, such as a line of layout text.

    Which side of the paragraph the badge sits on. Choose Right for a language that reads right to left.

    The shape of the badge around the letter: none, a square box, an outlined square, a filled circle or an outlined one.
