Highlight

Highlighted text with configurable style variants including marker, underline, gradient, outline, and text-only. Supports optional before/after surrounding copy and any block-level HTML tag. It is shown in the block inserter as Canvas Highlight and registered as canvas-core/highlight.

Select the block on a page and its own settings open in the sidebar, in the panels below:

Settings

Each setting is named exactly as the block editor names it, followed by what it does and what it starts as. Where a setting carries a Shown when line, it stays hidden until that condition is met, which is the usual reason a setting looks missing from the sidebar:

Content

  • Highlighted TextDefaultEmpty

The word or phrase that receives the highlight treatment.

  • Text BeforeDefaultEmpty

Plain text rendered immediately before the highlighted span.

  • Text AfterDefaultEmpty

Plain text rendered immediately after the highlighted span.

Settings

  • HTML TagDefaultp

Element that wraps the whole line. A heading level makes the line a heading; span keeps it flowing inside surrounding text.

  • Highlight StyleDefaultDefault (Accent Background)

Visual treatment on the highlighted words alone. Underline and Text Only leave the background clear, which reads better inside a long paragraph.
