Recent Comments

The latest approved comments from across the site, each with the commenter's avatar, name and opening words, linking into the thread. It is shown in the block inserter as Canvas Recent Comments and registered as canvas-core/recent-comments.

Select the block on a page and its own settings open in the sidebar, in the panels below:

Settings

Each setting is named exactly as the block editor names it, followed by what it does and what it starts as. Where a setting carries a Shown when line, it stays hidden until that condition is met, which is the usual reason a setting looks missing from the sidebar:

  • Comments To ShowDefault3

    How many of the most recent approved comments to list.

  • Only From Post TypeDefaultEmpty

    Limit to comments on one post type. Leave empty for comments from anywhere on the site.

  • Words Of Each CommentDefault8

    How much of the comment to quote before it is cut off.

  • Cut-Off MarkerDefaultEmpty

    Printed where the quote stops. Leave empty for the single-character ellipsis.

  • After The NameDefaultEmpty

    The punctuation between the commenter's name and their words.

Settings

  • Show AvatarDefaultOn

    Show each commenter's picture beside their comment. Turn it off for a plain text list.

  • Avatar SizeDefault150

    Pixel size requested from the avatar service. The stylesheet decides how large it is drawn.

    Clear this for a square avatar.

    The grid the rows sit in. Matches the compact posts widget so the two line up in one sidebar.

    Column width of one row inside the list.

    Shown in place of the list while nothing has been said. Leave empty to show nothing at all.
